Installation of a weather station (RWIS-ESS) at Sherman Pass for real-time observation of conditions using a camera system and tower, cellular phone communications, and an array of sensors (pavement temp, surface condition, solution freeze point, sub-grade temp, wind speed and direction, precipitation type and intensity, visibility, air temp, rel. humidity, and atmospheric pressure) costs $45,384. Other ancillary costs associated with construction, housing, and propane power system can raise cost to $170,000 per site.
